Schedule the babysitter. Grab your girlfriends and haul it down to the Texas Theatre in Oak Cliff this Friday and Saturday for the second annual Dallas Burlesque Festival.
“It’s really important to me that everyone knows what a big and diverse burlesque scene we have in Texas. We’ve had a lot of applicants from all over and it’s really exciting to be a part of it all,” said producer Elisa Davis. Davis is co-producing with local burlesque performers Black Mariah and Ginger Valentine (we’ve featured all the ladies before).
In an interview with Pegasus News Valentine described the event quite simply as: “A whole weekend of boobs."
With over 50 local, national and internationals performers including Renea' Le Roux, Coco Lectric and Ruby Joule of the Jigglewatts, Eva Strange Love, Flame Cynders, this year promises to be a burlesque
Headlining the event will be Angie Pontani, Miss Exotic World 2008—burlesque’s highest honor.
“The purpose of the festival is to promote burlesque performers to a larger audience, to promote other events and culture and to enrich the community,” said Davis in a statement.
If you haven’t been to a burlesque performance before or if you’re an occasional attendee, the burlesque festival is a treat. Each performance is like a new show and one of my favorites from last year was Honey Cocoa Bourdeauxx whose show stopping performance—she did a full back bend topless (well, she had pasties)—brought the house down. Burlesque is about celebrating the female form and, yes, men are welcome. In fact, it’s kind of hot to bring a guy with you. But be prepared: a woman in a g-string and pasties rocking her crotch a few feet from your seat can be a bit much for some.
What better way to start Super Bowl weekend than a night of boobs, burlesque and beer?
Some tips for the show:
1)      Buy tickets online: Skip the line. Buy early. This year you can buy a two day pass. Tickets for each night are $15, for both nights $25.
2)      Car pool: parking was an issue last year. There’s street parking but you’ll have to search for it.
3)      Arrive early: Even with tickets in hand you still have to wait to get in. Seating is first come first serve.
4)      Cameras and videos welcome: The performers aren’t shy about being photographed. Last year, scantily clad girls rocked and frolicked on a mattress while a photographer (and fans) documented their antics.
5)      Bring money: Beverages will be available for purchase and this year they’ll also have a host of vendors selling burlesque accessories as well as a live pinup shoot organized by local model Melissa Meoaw.
Vendors this year include: Paper Moon, Poisoned Creations, Slumber Parties Inc., Pure Romance, Vintage Flair, Taffeta Darling, Through The Looking Glass Studio, Dollface Delights, Belly's Bake Shop, Fascinating Things, Renea' Le Roux, Jupiter Moon, The Girls Room and La Divina Productions (vending Bachelor Pad).

I'm confused. Isn't this kind of like a feminist-y type site? Or is it just one of your writers that's a feminist? Or am I just completely, completely totally confused? :)
