A note on the door of Highland Park Pharmacy in Uptown informs customers that prescription drug services are no longer available at the pharmacy effective Dec. 11. Customers are directed to the Preston Road Pharmacy or any number of local pharmacies that offer prescription drug services. Note: the store (which is called Highland Park Pharmacy) is NOT closing. Just the old drug counter which has been in its current location since 1923 one employee told me. The pharmacy opened in 1912 and after 98 years it’s no longer a pharmacy (technically). They couldn’t compete with the 24/7 pharmacy counters and drive through drug services at nearby Walgreens and Walmart. Still, I’m sad to see the prescription drug counter go. But they still serve great milk shakes and the most affordable breakfast and lunch in Uptown. Plus the environment (today, two guys were asking customers and employees for help with the crossword puzzle) is retro fun. Let’s keep them in business!
